How to cancel your exercise request
If you need to cancel your exercise request in Carta, what you do next depends on whether the request is still pending approval by your company. Ultimately, all cancellations must be handled by your company, not Carta.
If your exercise is still pending (not approved yet)
✅ You can still request to cancel at this stage.
What to do:
Navigate to Exercises in Progress under your Holdings
Click View details beneath the grant ID
Click Contact company to send a message to your company admin
Suggested message: I’d like to cancel my pending option exercise request for [grant ID]. Please reject it in Carta.
If your exercise has already been approved
At this stage, your company has already processed your request. It may require a refund or reversal.
What to do:
Contact your company admin right away, or
Use the "Contact company" feature to reach out (but please note the admin won't see your message until the next time they log into Carta).
Suggested message: I’d like to cancel (or reverse) my approved option exercise for [grant ID]. Could you let me know if that’s possible and what the next steps are?
👉 Your company will let you know if your exercise can be reversed and whether a refund is possible. Timing and next steps depend on how you paid and whether a stock certificate was already issued.
